THE ISLAND OF KOH CHANG

Koh Chang (elephant island) is Thailand’s second largest island and is located in the far east of the Gulf of Thailand.  It boasts a well-known Marine National Park, is only a short walk from several beaches which are good for swimming and a short drive from the night life and entertainment in Lonely Beach and Bang Bao.

Koh Chang is approximately a 40 minute flight away from Bangkok Airport. You can be collected from the Trat Airport and transferred to the Ferry. From the pier, take a beautiful scenic journey across to the Island until the southern quiet village of Bailan .  Transfers are available to Harley Moon Hideaway which is a mere 30 minutes from the ferry.  While comfortably outside of the hustle and bustle of town, it is within walking distance of the local villages and buzzing nightlife!

Snorkeling, Fishing and Boat Trips

Fun days out include trips to the surrounding islands of Koh Wai and Koh Klum or down to the Marine Park at Koh Rang. The boat trips range from 1/2 day or full day tours aboard large tour boats or smaller wooden boats and speedboats. Private charters are also available.

Scuba Diving

Koh Chang has busy and vibrant scuba scene. There are different dive sites to explore and there is plenty to see, including the HTMS Chang wreck.

Jungle Trekking

Koh Chang jungle trekking is another great thing to do on the island. The beauty of Koh Chang’s flora and fauna is its wildness. While there are paths, expect a hard but very rewarding trekking day trough untouched jungle. Scramble up rocky inclines, cross water streams, vines and more.

Thai Cooking Class

Koh Chang Thai Cooking Schools are another popular way to spend a day off the beach. They teach a handful of comprehensive methods for everything from ingredients, to techniques and presentation.

Sailing, Kayaking and Stand Up Paddling

Yachts are now a common sight in the surrounding waters off Koh Chang, Koh Kood, Koh Mak and Koh Wai. Renting a kayak is also a good option to explore the coastline, find secluded beaches and enjoy the sea. Alternatively to renting kayaks, stand up paddleboards have also become very popular.

Action, Adventure and Sports

Koh Chang has plenty of other sports and fitness activities to keep you occupied if you need a break from the beach. Activities include ATV riding, gyms, golf, cycling, archery, shooting, Muay Thai, canopying and bird watching.

Relaxing and Detox

Across the island, there are dozens of different shops, beach beds and larger spas, offering the usual services of head, body and feet massages in some or other combination with or without oil.

Volunteering

Volunteering in Koh Chang is possible in education, animal welfare and the environment. Each of the charitable organizations listed here are more than happy to take on volunteers for a day, a week or longer.

Elephant Trekking

Elephant trekking in Koh Chang is possible at 6 separate camps located either on the roadside or inland. The camps are not elephant sanctuaries as you can find them in other parts of Thailand. Your are welcome to book an elephant trekking tour, even though we will not promote or recommend it.
